AUTOBAHN (1979, Spain)
Vertigo 71 05 181
Spain has been the source of a lot of interesting releases by Kraftwerk, including some of my favourite cover designs. It is also one of the few places which released all the early albums on cassette, allowing us a full discography up to The Mix.
To the best of my knowledge, Autobahn was not released on cassette in Spain until 1979.
I don't think it came on LP at the same time, apparently, this cassette corresponds with the 1977 release. At least, I think so, as they came on the Vertigo label, had a slightly dark repro of the German cover image and, somewhat surprisingly, still use Florian's full name, crediting him as F. Schneider-Esleben (in Germany, he had dropped the Esleben bit since 1973!)
The Spanish 1979 edition came in a grey case, with two-panel J-card printed on just one side. Cassettes have white paper labels on white shells. All in all a stylish release, and although not the easiest to get, still obtainable at an ok price. Muchas gracias, Espagna!
