THE MAN·MACHINE (Portugal, 1978)
Capitol 11C 266 85 444/ 11C 274 85444

I just wanted to do a quick follow-up on yesterdays post, and write a little about the later Portuguese editions of The Man Machine.

I posted yesterday about the first edition of this, which has a red stripe at the top of the front cover. Seeing as they sort of belong together and I even posted a picture of the two later editions in that post, I felt it fitting to add some more pictures of the next two ASAP.

As mentioned, later editions came with a blue stripe, or a yellow stripe, on the front cover, and again, the one with a red stripe is the only one with paper labels, the other two have on-body print.

A detail I forgot to mention in yesterday's post, is that the catalogue numbers differ from release to release; as seen yesterday, the first edition has the "8E" prefix. The two others have substituted this for "11C", which is the same prefix I knew of from other Portuguese releases, both LPs and singles. (I know I've mentioned these country codes before, not all countries would use them but 10C is the prefix for most EMI releases from Spain, France uses 2C, Sweden 7C, Brazil is 31C and so forth). Surprisingly, the J-card with the blue stripe has another anomaly in the catalog number, where the cover states 11C274 85444, but the labels have 11C 266 85 444. The edition with a yellow stripe has "11C 266" both places.

The later editions have on-body print, instead of paper labels. The design is different to the first edition, which had the composer credits for each track. Seeing as this is printed in the track list on all the J-cards, it seems to clutter up the track list on the labels, and the two later editions look tidier and prettier without it.

All three cassettes come with a 2-panel J-card, print on one side. Glossy paper is used for all three editions, but it is rather thin, certainly not card stock.

And just to clarify: The white cassette comes in the J-card with blue stripe. The black cassette has a yellow stripe on the J-card.

So that's three versions of one cassette from Portugal. I hope there are more!
