RADIO-ACTIVITY (France, 1983)

Another post, another addition I was glad to get. I think this is fairly obscure, if not necessarily valuable in terms of Euros? Anyway, here's a French reissue of Radio-Activity!
 

Sometimes, with these cassettes, it can be hard to find any actual information... I don't often know much about the item at hand, unless the info is printed on the actual item itself it has generally gone down the rivers of time. Especially when it comes to the release year of a particular re-issue, in most cases you rely on guesswork and hearsay. France is an exception to the rule, however, their reissues would generally print the year on the J-card. So this copy of Radio-Activity, on the Fame imprint, came out in 1983! 


The release year was a little surprising to me, as I have a Fame reissue from France of Trans-Europe Express, which is dated 1985. It would make sense if they put out reissues of all the Capitol albums in 1985 - the same year as Autobahn was "remixed" and reissued - or even if they put the "bigger" albums out first, and Radio-Activity came later (in fact, I don't know of any earlier French reissues of The Man Machine than this 1990 one). But this is in fact the first French reissue I can find traces of. -On Fame, that is; Radio-Activity was reissued on cassette in 1976, and there were re-pressings of the LP in 1979.


As is the norm with these Fame reissues, the design is based on the LP, not the first edition on cassette, and the J-card is 1-panel, printed on both sides. Cassette is grey with blue print.

ELECTRIC CAFE (Edicion Española) (1987, Spain) EMI 274 24 0688 4 Time to bring out the big guns... Here's a well known and sought-after item, and one that seems to fetch surprisingly high prices on the collectors market: The Spanish edition of Electric Cafe. Kraftwerk had been interested in the use of language over many years; even when they were an instrumental band, their titles would feature some word play and puns that are frankly surprisingly creative... After Autobahn was a surprise hit in the USA, Kraftwerk would cater more to their international audience, and for Radioaktivität, the lyrics were in both German and English. Then, for Trans-Europe Express, they had one song, Schaufensterpuppen, translated to French (issued in France and Belgium, but not Canada. AUTOBAHN (Poland, 1996?) Unofficial Reggae, 90208 Although there has been a lot of Polish releases on this blog before, I can't remember even one Autobahn? Well, here's the first, then, and it's on the surprisingly titled "Reggae" label. Apparently based on the German 1985 edition , same front illustration at least. The cassette is clear, without any info, not even which side you're looking at. The cover is a simple 1-panel J-card, on fairly cheap-looking thin paper, and printed on one side only. In fact, the only actual connection to the official item is the "motorway sign" design on the front; they haven't even bothered to put the track list on the cover! It just says "Autobahn I-V", which surprises me, as if they had access to the illustration on the front, surely they had the tracklist too? Maybe they were sent a postcard of it.
