Another one in my "variants" series today, here's another copy of the "Kometenmelodie 2" compilation from the "Collection A Tout" series!


As we have seen before, many cassettes would be released in different editions - it's kind of the point of this blog, really! I've posted reissues and original issues, I've touched on "Printed in Germany" and "Printed in EEC", I've had three different Portuguese editions of The Man Machine... But sometimes, the differences are so small that it's taken years to even notice them!


In this case, the printer's credit is moved. Today's cassette has the "Imp. C.I.D.I.S. Louviers" on the inside of the back flap, while on the one I posted here before - 4 years back, in fact - has the credit on the outer flap. Cassette shells, labels and the rest of the design of the J-card are exactly the same. Wait, no, there's one more detail, inside the J-card on today's version, there's a small note that this cassette is in stereo but also playable on mono decks.

   THE MIX (United Arab Emirates, 1991?) Thomsun Original EN - 4243 Long summer holidays without posting anything, but here at last is another Kraftwerk cassette - and it's another The Mix bootleg! This one I think comes from the United Arab Emirates - I'm not sure, as it doesn't say anywhere on cassette or J-card where it was manufactured, but Thomsun Original is known to be a U.E.A. label. And again, I'm just assuming the cassette was not issued in connection with Kraftwerk's record label or representatives, I have no way of knowing for sure. It would surprise me if Kraftwerk had sanctioned the release though, with the "Thomsun Original" logo scrawled across the front cover and jumbled running order of tracks... The J-card is just one-panel, one-sided print, and looks somewhat cheap and easy. The cassette itself has the appearance of one of those blank cassettes you'd buy to DIY... THE TELEPHONE CALL (UK, 1987) EMI (no cat.no) So. Yeah. It's been a while. What I have here today though, is something quite special: An Abbey Road Studios cassette from 1987, featuring their single The Telephone Call. The single was released on 7" and 12" in the UK (and in many territories), but not on cassette - neither in the UK, nor, as far as I know, anywhere else. And this cassette isn't actually  a "release" in the standard definition, either - certainly not available in shops, or even sent out as a promotional item...     As often happens in this blog, actual fact is hard to come by, and I can't say I know exactly what this cassette is or does. At a guess, it is a listening copy for studio use, to check the mastering prior to pressing up acetates or white label promos. At least, this is not a factory print of a cassette. ELECTRIC CAFE (Edicion Española) (1987, Spain) EMI 274 24 0688 4 Time to bring out the big guns... Here's a well known and sought-after item, and one that seems to fetch surprisingly high prices on the collectors market: The Spanish edition of Electric Cafe. Kraftwerk had been interested in the use of language over many years; even when they were an instrumental band, their titles would feature some word play and puns that are frankly surprisingly creative... After Autobahn was a surprise hit in the USA, Kraftwerk would cater more to their international audience, and for Radioaktivität, the lyrics were in both German and English. Then, for Trans-Europe Express, they had one song, Schaufensterpuppen, translated to French (issued in France and Belgium, but not Canada.
