Computer World (1981, Argentina)

Back to Argentina for this one, a somewhat battered copy of Computer World. I said in an earlier post (here) that there were all sorts of weird variants of the Argentinian releases, but on closer inspection, the supply seems to have dried up by the time of this release, as I've only ever come across this one Argentinian release for Computer World - for The Man Machine, there are two completely different J-cards designs, and for both that and its predecessor, Trans-Europe Express, there were a lot of different editions, with a multitude of catalogue numbers. Here, though - just the one. Well, as far as I know now.


The front cover is lifted from the UK edition, with some local appendages - an extra EMI logo (in addition to the one on the spine), for some reason; the catalogue no. in large print; the word "CASSETTE". All surely correcting a fault of the UK original, even if it is unclear to me exactly which fault. I liked it better without all this fluff down the lower end of the front.

 

The J-card is the simplest 1-panel variant with light brown lettering on the inside, and the cassette is roughly cream coloured with brown on-body print. The song titles are presented in English on the card's back flap, but on the inside of the card, as well as the labels, they are translated into Spanish. It does feel like a missed opportunity that the album title is not translated on the front of the J-card, both Chile and Mexico translated the title on their releases, and thus produced some highly collectable variants for us collectors... The title on the cassette body is in Spanish though.

AUTOBAHN (Poland, 1996?) Unofficial Reggae, 90208 Although there has been a lot of Polish releases on this blog before, I can't remember even one Autobahn? Well, here's the first, then, and it's on the surprisingly titled "Reggae" label. Apparently based on the German 1985 edition , same front illustration at least. The cassette is clear, without any info, not even which side you're looking at. The cover is a simple 1-panel J-card, on fairly cheap-looking thin paper, and printed on one side only. In fact, the only actual connection to the official item is the "motorway sign" design on the front; they haven't even bothered to put the track list on the cover! It just says "Autobahn I-V", which surprises me, as if they had access to the illustration on the front, surely they had the tracklist too? Maybe they were sent a postcard of it. The Model (Poland, 199?) Unofficial Euro Star ES 2213 Time for another Polish pirate cassette! This time, though, a compilation, one of the few that weren't "curated", so to speak, in Poland...  "The Model 1975-1978" was a compilation on the US Cleopatra label, released in 1992. It features tracks from Radio-Activity, Trans-Europe Express and The Man Machine, some of them in their original single edits, and Les Mannequins which had been issued as the b-side to its English-language counterpart Showroom Dummies on a promotional "disco" 12" single. There are several Polish editions of this, this one has all the tracks from the compilation - not in the same order, though, they have been jumbled around, I suppose it was an effort to make two programmes of equal lenght.
