And we're back to Electric Cafe again. As said earlier, by 1986, releases were fairly standardised for many territories, notably within the EU, and it's getting harder to come up with variants that actually look different, but there are still a few interesting items worldwide that have not featured here yet!


In Yugoslavia, Electric Cafe was put out on the State label, Jugoton, and compared to the mentioned "standard" of EU, UK, and the USA, this looks rather cheap and simple: a 1-panel J-card, printed on both sides. My copy (if not all) is cut a little to narrow and misses a little of the front cover on the right-hand side. (They should have looked to Italy and put the design in a frame.)


The inside of the J-card holds the credits, impenetrable as they are, at least stylishly presented in what I believe is Kraftwerk's own typeface? In fact, the panel is lifted from the EU standard edition, so you get two of the 8 panels from the EU editions, more or less. The cassette has the Jugoton standard orange labels, no digital typeface, but all the specific copyright info etc.

On a personal note, I ordered a copy of this during the pandemic, but it has yet to materialise... A rare occasion of things getting lost in the mail for me. Hope it's not going to happen more often in the future! For me as a collector, with many different editions of each release, the ones that look a bit different are often the ones I find the most interesting - even when they don't look that fascinating per se. I've shown a few editions of this release from countries that didn't splash out on the full , 2-sided/ 4-panel J-card, some countries made a relatively "budget" release on cassette... Australia did an interesting variant, where they steered clear of the all-black custom design, but at least, the J-card was printed on both sides. RADIO-ACTIVITY (Portugal, 1976) Capitol 11C274 82 087 Every blog should have a certain amount of posts starting with "I haven't been posting in a while", for the benefit I suppose for readers who do not posess a calendar. It's summer, I was busy and I haven't received a lot of items recently to fascinate me. But sure, here's an item, a nice return to Portugal and to Radio-Activity!   I love these Portuguese items , they have their own style! At least during the "Capitol years", ie the albums Radio-Activity, Trans-Europe Express and The Man-Machine, each cassette came out in several slightly different editions. Each one presents the LP cover quite simply, except where Portugal gives us a coloured stripe across the upper front of the J-card. Bright, clear colours, and whenever one edition sold out, they changed the stripe. AUTOBAHN (Poland, 1996?) Unofficial Reggae, 90208 Although there has been a lot of Polish releases on this blog before, I can't remember even one Autobahn? Well, here's the first, then, and it's on the surprisingly titled "Reggae" label. Apparently based on the German 1985 edition , same front illustration at least. The cassette is clear, without any info, not even which side you're looking at. The cover is a simple 1-panel J-card, on fairly cheap-looking thin paper, and printed on one side only. In fact, the only actual connection to the official item is the "motorway sign" design on the front; they haven't even bothered to put the track list on the cover! It just says "Autobahn I-V", which surprises me, as if they had access to the illustration on the front, surely they had the tracklist too? Maybe they were sent a postcard of it.
